Microfiche merupakan media yang berisikan dokumen yang telah diperkecil antara 18-48 kali dari bentuk aslinya yang dapat dibaca melalui alat yang dinamakan microfiche reader. Mikrofis berisi bayangan dalam ukuran perkecilan 18x sampai 48x. Rasio ukuran mikrofis adalah 4 x 5 inci (10,2 cm x 15,2 cm) yang berisi informasi yang disajikan dalam ukuran yang terlalu kecil untuk dilihat secara langsung dengan mata telanjang.
